Waling (Syangja), Oct 26: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has urged party leaders and cadres to reach out to people at their doorsteps to rebuild public trust in the party.
Speaking at a welcome and interaction programme in Putalibazar, Syangja district today, party President Thapa observed that his party lost public trust, not just votes.
''The Congress has lost trust, not votes. Once trust is restored, votes will follow," the leader expressed his confidence.
The leader of the major opposition party spoke of the need to meet disgruntled voters who had become distant from the party.
He viewed that their grievances should be listened and they need to be sensitized about the changes taking place within the NC.
He stressed that leaders and cadres, from the ward level to the central leadership, must work in unison to win back the confidence of voters who had turned away due to dissatisfaction with the party.
Referring to changes in the party following the party’s recently held 15th national general convention, Thapa took the event as an opportunity to inform that the preparation was underway to launch a grassroots-level awareness campaign in coming December to sensitize people about the changes and reconnect with the public.
He also argued that the party's general convention should be viewed as an internal democratic exercise rather than a contest in which some emerge as winners and others as losers.
All party members have equal standing, regardless of whether they secure positions or responsibilities, he said, calling for unity as the party moves forward.
