Province govt selects 11 community schools for STEAM Lab
Kaski, Oct 6: Gandaki Province government has decided to provide grants for the establishment and operation of STEAM laboratories at various 11 community schools in the province in a bid to make science, technology, engineering and mathematics education further practical and technology-friendly.
The Education Development Division under the Ministry of Social Development, Youth and Sports selected 11 schools from across the province in line with the annual programme endorsed for running the STEAM Labs targeting secondary education. The programme is included in the current fiscal year.
The schools were selected on Monday by evaluating the proposals they had submitted for the grant. The grant of Rs 400 thousand is awarded to each school, according to Division chief, Ghanashyam Poudel. Poudel added that total grant of Rs 4.4 million would be available for the 11 schools.
"We believe the establishment of STEAM Lab will help in linking the study of science and technology-related subjects at schools with experiments, tests and practices. It fosters skills beyond theoretical knowledge,” he added.
The province government launched the programme with the aim of creating an environment conducive for students to learn science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEAM) in a practical manner. Experiment is focused by the labs.
The grants recipients are- the Dhanubas Kalika Secondary School of Ghachowk, Madi Rural Municipality-7 of Kaski, the Suryodaya Secondary School of Gumda, Dharche Rural Municipality-5 of Gorkha, and the Tara Secondary School at Chebetar of Gorkha Municipality-10.
Other in the same list are- the Shiva Secondary School at Dumsi of Byas Municipality-10, Tanahun; the Saraswati Sanskrit and General Secondary School at Giruwari, Hupsekot Rural Municipality-3, the Kumarawati Secondary School at Kolhuwa, Gaindakot Municipality-3, the Krishna Gandaki Secondary School at Dhodeni and the Suryajyoti Secondary School of Hupsekot Rural Municipality-9, Jugepani from Nawalpur.
The STEAM laboratories will be run also at the Purushodaya Secondary School at Barahkot of Baglung; the Balmandir Secondary School at Kalipul of Myagdi; and the Chandidanda Secondary School at Mattikhan of Syangja district.
The financial assistance would be utilized by the schools to manage necessary materials, equipment and other infrastructures for establishing and operating the laboratories. The teaching and learning activities are expected to be effective to the better facilities and laboratory.
