Minister Sah pledges remove to legal, procedural hurdles for business environment

Kathmandu, Oct 5: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Dipak Sah, has expressed the commitment to create investment-friendly environment by removing legal and procedural barriers prevailing in industry sector. 
In today's meeting of the Industry, Commerce and Consumer Welfare Committee, Minister Sah shared the government's awareness about the necessity of timely reforms in laws, procedures and delivery. 
Stating that the government role is to facilitate, regulate and formulate laws, he described private sector as leading actor of production, investment, employment and innovation. 
He underlined the need for the government and private sector to seek the solutions in a collaborative manner. 
Minister Shah expressed his commitment to put forth the process to amend constraining legal frameworks and adopt a policy to zero tolerance against corruption and unnecessary interference. 
He opined that digital economy, e-commerce, modern supply chain, international competition and changing role of the private sector would be addressed. 
On the occasion, industrialists drew the government's attention through the committee to review the provision of leave, saying public and weekly holiday have made impact on industrial productivity.  
President of Chamber of Industries, Morang, Nanda Kishor Rathi, urged the committee to reconsider the number of public holidays and two-day weekly off   align with the nature of industrial production. 
Similarly, President of Morang Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anil Kumar Shah, demanded the authorities concerned to address the problems facing by industries due to two-day weekly off. 
He also urged for introducing laws related to lending transactions and control unauthorized cross-border trade. 
Likewise, President of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Hari Gautam, opined that two-day weekly off has hit hard industrialists, complaining that such holiday have affected education and health sectors as well as in productivity. 
The industrialists put forth various demands including establishment of industrial village, bring one-door system for renewal of the industries, sustainable and reliable power supply for industries' operations.
