Minister Chaudhary, WWF-US representative meet
Kathmandu, Oct 6: A meeting took place between Minister for Agriculture, Forests and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, and representatives of World Wildlife Fund-US and Nepal, at the ministry today.
On the occasion, they discussed the various issues including recent flood and disaster of Nepal, reconstruction, conservation of biodiversity, climate resilience, forests and wildlife management and future collaboration.
Chief Operating Officer of WWF-US, Loren Mayor expressed the belief that the WWF would continue collaboration with the government of Nepal and Nepali people during disaster hour.
She expressed commitment that WWF would support in mobilization of international technology, knowledge and resources.
Extending gratitude towards WWF's support to Nepal during disaster hour, Minister Chaudhary shared about damages caused in agricultural land and forest area from flood as well as challenges of reconstruction.
Minister Chaudhary pointed out the need of giving priority to long0term climate and disaster resilience development along with reconstruction.
Stating that special attention has been given on the issue of growing human-wildlife conflict, she opined that that human-tiger conflict is growing along with increasing number of tiger.
Minister Chaudhary stressed the need of modern technology and scientific management to resolve the problem of wild elephant as well as problems of monkey seen in 55 districts.
Discussion was also held about possibility to mobilize international environmental and climate finance for human-elephant conflict.
The WWF also expressed commitment to facilitate in mobilization of world-class technology, knowledge and resources as per the priorities of Nepal.
An understanding has also been reached between the both sides to make further collaboration more result-oriented by integrating nature conservation, community resilience and sustainable economic development.
