Parliamentary Special Committee starts onsite study of disaster-hit areas

Kathmandu, Oct 7: The Parliamentary Special Committee on Impacts of Climate Change in Himalayas, Climate Justice and Bhotekoshi-Trishuli Disaster under the House of Representatives has carried out onsite study of disaster hit areas.

A team under the leadership of Committee President Ganesh Parajuli started studying the post-disaster situation from Bidur municipality of Nuwakot.

The team reached Nepali Army Barrack in Bidur and met with representatives of three-tier of governments deployed in management and coordination of disaster and enquired about real situation of disaster and post-disaster.  

Parajuli opined that suggestions from representatives of local levels were collected on the issues of search, rescue and temporary shelter, restoration of communication network, safe rehabilitation and resettlement and sustainable reconstruction, and risk reduction during the onsite study. 

"People's representatives of local levels have openly appreciated the readiness shown by the federal government and concerned bodies in search, rescue and relief," he viewed. 

The people's representatives of the local levels strongly urged for effective promptness in restoring basic services and connectivity networks as well as issues to be address by amending laws immediately, Parajuli stated.

The Committee has been collecting suggestions about the measures to be adopted in course of restoration, rehabilitation and reconstruction, methods and policy-level arrangements for disaster risk reduction in coming days.
