President of Disaster Study Committee Poudel takes oath
Kathmandu, Oct 8: National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal administered the oath of office and secrecy today to Krishna Prasad Poudel, the chairperson of the 'Bhotekoshi and Kaligandaki Corridor Disaster Study and Monitoring Parliamentary Special Committee'.
The National Assembly meeting held on October 2 formed a nine-member special committee with one member to be nominated later. Poudel was elected as the chairperson of the committee unopposed.
The oath-taking ceremony was held in the parliamentary committee hall at Singha Durbar in the presence of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam and other officials.
Right after taking the oath, President Poudel, while talking to Rastriya Samachar Samiti, said that the committee will work keeping in mind the suffering, hardships, and pain experienced by citizens, children, women, mothers, and people with disabilities due to the disaster in the Bhotekoshi and Kaligandaki corridors.
He expressed a commitment to prepare reports based on facts and data to reduce the speed and damage of such disasters in the future.
"We plan to work day and night for three months to do an exemplary job for the country and its citizens. We will prepare a report that is based on facts and data, reliable both nationally and internationally, and feasible to implement," the Committee President Paudel said.
He mentioned that an implementable report could be prepared by studying both national and international practices, with the help of experts as needed.
