Kathmandu, Oct 24: West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford will represent Sudurpaschim Royals in the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), while Pakistan fast bowler Hunain Shah has signed with Janakpur Bolts.
The Sudurpaschim Royals announced Rutherford’s signing on Saturday, expressing confidence that the experienced left-handed batter would bring strength and aggression to their batting lineup.
''We are confident that an experienced and attacking player like Rutherford will make our team stronger. His batting skills and experience in franchise cricket will be valuable as we pursue our goals this season,'' remarked Prakash Khadka, Chief Executive Officer of the Sudurpaschim Royals.
The 28-year-old cricketer is known for his explosive batting in T20 cricket.
He has represented the West Indies in 31 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 61 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), scoring 873 and 1,123 runs, respectively.
Meanwhile, Janakpur Bolts have strengthened their bowling attack with the signing of 24-year-old Pakistani pacer Hunain Shah on Saturday itself.
Shah has gained experience in Pakistan’s domestic cricket circuit and franchise tournaments, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
His cricketing career boasts an impressive run in the 2026 PSL, taking 17 wickets in 10 matches.
Shah carried that form into the CPL, claiming 16 wickets in 13 matches for Jamaica Kingsmen and finishing among the tournament’s joint-leading wicket-takers.
The NPL will be Shah’s second overseas league competition, offering him another opportunity to showcase his pace and wicket-taking ability on the franchise cricket stage.
The third edition of the NPL is set to start on October 26 in Kathmandu.
