Huge properties destroyed in floods in Myagdi
Myagdi, Oct 17: The recent monsoon disaster in Myagdi has resulted in significant property damage, particularly in Beni Municipality, where 242 private houses have been affected.
Among these, 91 houses were completely destroyed, while 151 sustained partial damage. The areas of Chinakhet and Chhepare in Bhakimli experienced the most severe impacts, including two fatalities due to landslides.
Additionally, 33 sheds were damaged, and a protective concrete wall along the Kaligandaki river was washed away. In response to the extensive damage, the District Disaster Management Committee is seeking an additional budget of Rs 10 million from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, as the initially allocated Rs 75 lakh for road repairs is deemed insufficient.
The estimated cost for restoring the damaged roads is projected to be between Rs 25 to 30 million. Furthermore, a significant portion of the water supply infrastructure has been compromised, with a Rs 90 million scheme suffering damage that will require an estimated Rs 50 million for reconstruction.
Technicians have assessed the total cost for rebuilding the water supply pipeline in Beni at Rs 140 million, prompting a request for immediate provision of Rs 10 million worth of pipes from the provincial government.
The disaster has also impacted educational and health facilities, with two school buildings, two toilets, a child development centre, and a health post building reported as damaged.
The floods and landslides have inflicted over Rs 20 million in damages at the tourist site of Singa Tatopani Kund, highlighting the widespread devastation caused by the recent weather events.
